About
Todd Parkinson approaches therapy without rigid formats, believing that true safety and healing are rooted directly in the therapeutic relationship. Having worked in residential treatment since 2005 as a youth mentor, supervisor, and clinician, Todd understands care from the ground up. He is known for his direct, “rip off the Band-Aid” approach to sensitive and difficult topics, creating a nonjudgmental, “come as you are” environment where young men feel comfortable discussing hard issues.
Rather than pushing an agenda or enforcing rigid expectations, Todd focuses on reading nonverbal cues, addressing hesitancy, and building authentic connections. He works collaboratively with the team at Oxbow Academy across different age groups—from 10- to 13-year-olds in the junior house to older adolescents up to age 18. By integrating Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT) with Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Todd helps students resolve underlying trauma and restore safety so families can heal and reconnect. His main modalities include DBT and ART.
Todd is an Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor (ACMHC) under the supervision of David Zane. Originally from Utah, Todd has worked in adolescent residential treatment centers since 2005, spanning lockdown facilities, open residential programs, and boarding schools across Southern and Central Utah. Over his 18 years in behavioral healthcare, he has served as a Youth Mentor, Residential Supervisor, and Clinician, working exclusively with young men. He has been practicing as a therapist since 2022.
Todd earned his Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University in Colorado. His background includes clinical experience working with state-removed youth involved with DCFS who experienced significant trauma. Todd holds specialized certifications in Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).
Outside of his clinical work at Oxbow, Todd loves connecting with people, staying active, and enjoying life. His personal interests include a wide range of water sports—such as skimboarding and paddleboarding—as well as longboarding, weightlifting, and kickboxing in his basement.
