“For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.”

- ― Aristotle, The Nicomachean Ethics

Walking around the classroom and working one-on-one with a student on a daily basis you begin to get a feel for how one thinks, their learning strengths and weaknesses and their hopes and aspirations as a student. Learning is not fun until the student gains a curiosity, need or desire to learn. Thankfully innate to all of us is the potential to learn how to learn, and love it! It’s a disservice to a student to only help them memorize answers on a test, pass it and then move on with life. Learning how to learn is the necessary skill or requirement for the majority of adult life! College requires a desire to learn and the skills to obtain knowledge on your own and so does life. In the Oxbow Academy Academic system, which is under the Discovery Academy Academic umbrella we teach students how to learn and hope to instill a desire and love of learning in the process! Because Discovery Academy is our Academic system, all graduated student’s transcripts state Discovery Academy on them.

The video below shares some insight into the Discovery Academy Academic model used at Oxbow Academy, and how it is designed to change up the standard learning methods that have grown less effective over the years.

We love to work with parents and their student and look forward to answering any questions you may have about our academic model or department!
