Maria Lewis MRC, CRC, ALCMHC, PhD Candidate
Maria completed her masters in Rehabilitation Counseling at Utah State University in 2010 and is currently pursuing a PhD in Disability Disciplines-Rehabilitation Counseling. She is happy to be engaged in research projects and opportunities at Oxbow Academy. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and also is an Associate Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. Maria worked as the EmployAbility Clinic Coordinator at Utah State University prior to coming to Oxbow. There she worked with individuals who had been identified as high risk for being unsuccessful in obtaining employment to develop social, life, and work skills and become gainfully employed.
Maria has gained experiences working with individuals with a variety of disabilities, but particularly those with Autism Spectrum Disorder and those with other sensory needs. She has volunteered and worked in a variety of Equine-Assisted therapy programs where she gained a love for integrating animals and other experiential activities into her work to achieve a variety of treatment and therapeutic goals. Maria integrates her love for animals, music, food, and the outdoors into her work every day. She has a passion for the work that she does at Oxbow Academy.
