Richard Newton, LCSW, CSAT – Therapist

Richard Newton has been a member of the Oxbow family for a number of years starting as a staff mentor, advancing to staff supervisor, a proctor and now transitioning flawlessly into our clinical team as an insightful therapist. From an earlier age, he always knew he would work with adolescents in need due to his natural talents and helpful personality. Richard’s motto since starting with Oxbow has been “Life is about relationships.” Richard has deep respect and understanding for his students because he knows that in order to grow they have to allow themselves to be completely vulnerable and trust in the healing process.

Richard went to Snow College as a pre-med student and then transferred to Utah Valley University to study behavioral science family studies where he graduated summa cum laude. Richard was able to get his masters in social work from the University of Utah where he also graduated summa cum laude.

Richard has a diverse clinical history. He’s a certified school social worker and has worked for the Alpine School District in Utah. He has also worked at 4 different residential treatment centers, and at the local detention center in Utah. He loves working with the rest of the clinical team at Oxbow and feels the level of collaboration is unlike anything he has ever experienced before. His focus of modality is Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance, Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mind and Body Bridging (MBB), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Jungian and have recently started doing a lot of work in Attachment-based therapy.

Richard is from Utah and enjoys spending time with his family in the outdoors. He has three beautiful daughters and a devoted wife. While they love Utah and the surrounding mountain area in San Pete County, every spring, he takes his family to Dana Point in California to enjoy some time at the beach.
